Belize is rapidly becoming one of the hottest visitor destinations in the region, and major airlines are now busy adding new flights to accommodate the rising numbers. Southwest Airlines has just announced that it will begin offering non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Belize beginning on June 4, 2017. According to the airline, one-way fares will begin at just $79, an incredible value for Americans wanting to experience the magic and natural beauty of Belize.
Fort Lauderdale is a city situated approximately 30 miles north of Miami. American Airlines has operated non-stop flights from Miami's international airport (MIA) to Belize City for years. The new announcement by Southwest will offer travelers even more options when choosing to visit the lovely Central American nation of Belize. Southwest currently operates non-stop flights to Belize from Houston's Hobby Airport (HOU) and Denver (DEN). Denver service will begin on March 11, 2017.
The new Southwest flight from Fort Lauderdale to Belize was first announced to the public during the traditional New Year's address by Belize’s Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, and has since been confirmed by Southwest Airlines on its website.
For visitors heading to Belize's western Cayo District, the Cahal Pech Village Resort is a great choice. Located just minutes from the eco-tourism capital of San Ignacio, the Cahal Pech Village Resort offers visitors the chance to enjoy lovely thatched roof cabanas, a gourmet restaurant and cocktails in a beautiful site overlooking the Belize River Valley.
Cahal Pech is a great place to explore all the best that western Belize has to offer. Top nearby attractions include the ancient Maya ruins at Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, and Caracol, the latter two being the dominant city states throughout much of the Classic Period of Maya history. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tikal is also conveniently located just across the border in neighboring Guatemala. The nearby town of San Ignacio is home to one of the country's most colorful open air markets where visitors and locals can shop for fresh produce, dairy products, homemade gifts, handicrafts, and traditional medicines.
Cahal Pech Village Resort is also an excellent staging point for expeditions to explore the pristine natural beauty of Belize, including trips to the Mountain Pine Ridge National Park, rappel down or simply admire gorgeous waterfalls, horseback riding through the jungle, zip lining, bird watching, white water rafting, and canoeing.
