With gorgeous sunny weather and refreshing sea breezes, springtime in Belize is truly spectacular. Located just a short flight away from the United States, the friendly English-speaking Central American nation of Belize offers unbeatable adventure excursions, pristine wildlife, and affordable prices.
Whether you're interesting in exploring ancient Maya ruins, snorkeling and diving offshore, Belize has it all. As the local currency, the Belizean Dollar, is permanently pegged to the United States dollar at two-to-one, prices are easy to understand and generally more affordable than other vacation destinations in Central America.
Mayan Ruins, Whale Sharks and Easter in Belize
Belize is located in the heartland of the once-mighty Mayan Empire. Today, visitors can climb and explore dozens of Maya ruins, complete with towering pyramids and impressive stone plazas.
Every spring from March to June, huge schools of migrating whale sharks come to the waters offshore Belize to feed on fish spawn and eggs. The magnificent whale sharks pose little danger to humans, allowing divers to get close to these playful and inquisitive giants of the deep. Measuring up to 12 meters (41 feet) in length, whale sharks are the largest species of fish in the ocean.
Easter is one of the biggest festivals in Belize and the entire country turns out in force to celebrate the four-day holiday with picnics, dancing, and an exciting bicycle race held on Holy Saturday. Hundreds of cyclists compete in the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic to cross the finish line first after completing the 142-mile loop between Belize City and San Ignacio Town.
