Belize Weather Guide

Fall in Love with Belize’s Weather Over and Over Again

It’s easy to fall in love with Belize. Everybody speaks English. Mayan ruins are extraordinary and the Belize Barrier Reef is an incomparable work of natural art. Belize lays claim to some of the most spectacular waterfalls, rainforests and jungles in Central America, but beyond these reasons to visit (according to tourists who wouldn’t think of going elsewhere) is Belize’s weather. Mild temperatures year-round are so consistent, no time to vacation here is better than another. You’ll fall in love with Belize weather, too, no matter which month suits your fancy or your travel schedule!

We’re of the belief that Belize has Mother Nature on speed dial because even when the weather isn’t perfect, it’s fairly close to it. The average, year-round temperature throughout the land is an agreeable 84-degrees F. Things cool down or warm up by just a few degrees, but the year-range range rarely pokes out of the 70- to 86-degree F range.

If you live in an area that can hit triple digits within a 12-month cycle (10 below zero to 100-degrees F), this predictable temperature range may remind you of Eden on Earth, and like Eden, Adams, Eves, jaguars and howler monkeys live here in harmony because the weather is conducive to sustaining just about every creature on the planet. Besides, Mayans lived here thousands of years ago and since they didn’t wear much clothing, comfy consistent temperatures must have been the reason they settled here.

Should you visit at a particular time of year? That depends upon your proclivities. If you can’t abide vacation venues that are so crowded, it’s impossible to hear yourself think, low season is your best bet because picky tourists allergic to the occasional rain shower visit Belize during high season and they pay more to stick around.

On the other hand, if you thrive on making the social scene, book accommodations during high season. Whichever road you choose, find exactly what you seek at a resort like Cahal Pech where even at the height of high season, staff is so attentive and amenities so plentiful, you might not want to leave resort grounds.

If you’re convinced that Belize is your best year-round vacation bet, we’ve put together a “Belize weather at a glance” guide. Peruse it before you pack so you know exactly what to expect from the time you arrive until the moment you (reluctantly) depart.

January Belize Weather
Lucky you: While some are assaulted by frigid temperatures, you’re choosing a small suitcase for your Belize trip because lightweight garments are all you need both day and night. Expect temperatures to run between 70- and 80-degrees F—it’s so mild, this month is a popular time to come. Since the region transitions from the green season to dry season this month, tuck a fold-down poncho into you bag should an impromptu shower come along.

February Belize Weather
You can make Belize your favorite Valentine this month because the dry season is in full swing, temperatures remain in that 70- to 80-degree F range, nights are cool enough to wear the wrap you just snared on a shop’s clearance rack and days are heavenly. We suggest you make it a point to spend Valentine’s Day touring the San Ignacio Market in casual clothing and sampling everything that comes your way.

March Belize Weather
Back home, friends and family are huddled beneath coats and blankets as the annual March basketball madness rages on, but you can catch games from under a beach umbrella while sipping tropical drinks at Cahal Pech if you’ve brought along the right electronic device. Heck, bet on your favorite team via your favorite website. Temperatures inch up this month, but stay within that 10-degree range: Anticipate between 74- and 83-degrees F. And don’t place bets on rain, because you could lose.

April Belize Weather
If the thrill of spotting exotic wildlife is one of the reasons you visit in April, bring light rain gear because light fronts that bring Iguana Rains sweep through. Impromptu, cooling showers feed Belize jungles, rainforests and tributaries where these creatures live. Temperature ranges tick up slightly; between 76- and 85-degrees F, so check out marine life under the Belize Barrier Reef by booking marine adventures through your Cahal Pech host.

May Belize Weather
Don’t be surprised if you spot wedding parties this month, because destination wedding season arrives in May. Have you been invited to one? Break out your hottest outfit because temperatures range from 79- to 87-degrees F, which means strapless, short, diaphanous and sheer clothing are all on the menu. Since Belize is known to have the most hospitable rains on the planet (they visit in the morning and during the night) in April, use them as your excuse to sleep late every day.

June Belize Weather
Temperatures in June register perhaps the smallest range throughout the year, so as long as you pack clothing that’s appropriate for temperatures that range from 82- to 86-degrees F, you’ll be ready for any activity you desire: caving adventures, tour Mayan ruins or stick around your Cahal Pech accommodations to enjoy all of the resort’s amenities.

July Belize Weather
If you liked June, you’re going to love July. Temperature shifts are mainly on the cool side with lows around 79-degrees F. Green season moves into Belize in July, but you may not notice more than the showers that feed the jungles and rejuvenate flowers and gardens, because easterly breezes kick in to cool things down. Wait until you experience the enchanting sounds of nighttime thunderstorms on your suite’s roof!

August Belize Weather
You couldn’t pick a better month to vacation in Belize because resort rates dip, the number of tourists drop and weather patterns are awesome. Drier winds from the west usher in the “Little Dry” period because those dramatic nighttime storms and spontaneous daytime showers lessen while temperatures remain between 78- and 86-degrees at this time of year. Ergo, beach weather doesn’t get any more idyllic.

September Belize Weather
This is another hot month for vacationing in Belize—not because temperatures ranging from 77- to 86-degrees F will be uncomfortable, but because Belize celebrates its annual Independence Day with a full month of festivities. September in Belize is the biggest secret in Central America. Bring your party duds, which fold-down rain poncho just in case the clouds decide to baptize Belize in honor of the occasion, and join the fun.

October Belize Weather
Northern breezes sweep across Belize, bringing rainfall to cool things down both night and day. That stated, temperatures are truly comfortable, ranging from 75- to 84-degrees F. If you could care less about rain and you want to see one of the region’s most dramatic sights, see if you can observe storms moving in from the Maya Mountains. It’s spectacular. There’s plenty to do and see despite the seasonal change, which is why pre-high season accommodation rates are so reasonable.

November Belize Weather
As winter invades North America, Belize invites you to bring and wear all of those summer outfits while enjoying some of the most refreshing temperature ranges of all. While it can drop to 73-degrees F in the evening, daytime highs of 82-degrees F are reason enough to give thanks as friends and relatives carve turkeys wearing sweaters and you enjoy a traditional meal courtesy of your resort’s culinary staff.

December Belize Weather
Swim your heart out on Christmas Day—or dive, fish and snorkel. Make any of these activities your gift to yourself for working hard all year so you can abandon ship in December and watch thermometers toggle between 71- and 80-degrees F. If you’ve never sung Christmas carols on a sandy beach dressed in your swimsuit, you owe it to yourself to do just that!
