Top Natural Wonders of Belize

You'd be hard pressed to find a location more geographically perfect than Belize. This small Central American country sits directly along the Caribbean Sea near the second largest barrier reef in the world, and the western Cayo District offers a wealth of adventures among lush and verdant jungles.

But some attractions are more stunning than others, and it can be easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer variety of things to do. Here are the seven most interesting and diverse places to visit while in Belize.

ATM Cave, more formally known as Actun Tunichil Muknal, was a holy site during the Maya Empire, and a tour of the cave allows you to see a place of human sacrifice and tools and relics dating back centuries. The main chamber is still home to human remains dating back to the era where the Mayas ruled.

The pyramid temple of Xunantunich is an imposing reminder of how sophisticated ancient cultures could often be in terms of science and engineering. But it also offers a stunning view of the nearby Guatemalan border if you're up to the task of climbing it.

Xunantunich

Mountain Pine Ridge was transformed into a national park as a way to preserve the dry pine forests in Belize's interior. Today, it spans 166 square miles and is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the country. This pine forest has garnered special attention as an exceptional spot for bird watching.

Mountain Pine Ridge

Barton Creek Cave was also a site of religious importance for priests in the Maya Empire, and it was believed to offer entry into the underworld. Today, the waters that run through this cave system are a popular choice for underground tubing.

Barton Creek Cave

Vaca Lake is artificially created, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. Local mechanized pontoon tours allow you to get up close and personal with the flora and fauna of the Macal River region. It's a unique but relaxing experience.

Vaca Lake

Caracol was once a critical center of culture and commerce for the Maya Empire, and it continues to be amazingly well preserved. It's easy to transport your mind into the past as you find yourself walking among the temples of this ancient city, a city which covered twice as much territory as modern day Belize City.

Caracol

Big Rock Falls is an especially stunning waterfall in a region that's known for them — the Cayo District. With a height of 150 feet, it's worth seeing once in your life. But it also creates one of the most pleasant swimming holes in the country.

Big Rock

There may be a lot of landmarks to consider when traveling to Belize, but you only have to think of one option for accommodations. Cahal Pech Village Resort is a modern hotel that's committed to making sure you have the time of your life. And we're ideally positioned for exploring as much of this fascinating country as possible.
