Southwest will commence its new nonstop flight service to Belize this week from its new $146 million international terminal at William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.
This week is considered to be the biggest leap in international service by the airline as it will not only be offering daily flights to Belize but also to Mexico and Costa Rica. The new service to Belize is scheduled for Thursday, October 15th.
According to CEO Gary Kelly, this is the year of Houston for the airline as Houston is one of Southwest's three original cities and a geographic no-brainer as an international hub, will be the airline's focus for "quite some time.''

This new flight to Belize will provide much needed competition with other airlines that fly to Belize and tourism stakeholders in the country believe that international airfare to Belize will reduce significantly as a result of this new service by Southwest.
Earlier this year, representatives from Southwest visited Belize and told the media that Belize represents a “wonderful opportunity” to extend its value of air travel, in terms of both experience and travel generally, to passengers from the U.S. to Belize and vice versa, numbering as much as 115 million, and building a market in the U.S. for visitors here.
Southwest joins established carriers American, United, Taca and Delta in servicing Belize.
