Is it a reasonable request to ask you to leave your expectations behind if you’re granted the opportunity of spending New Year’s Eve in Belize? Belize never disappoints; in fact, visitors spending the waning days of an old year wearing a pair of flip-flops and standing beneath a sky filled with fireworks just begins the celebration.

Once you experience New Year’s in Belize, you may never be content to spend the holiday wearing a paper hat and blowing into a noisemaker because a traditional Belize New Year is that splendid, thanks in great part to the rituals that reflect Belize's cultural diversity.

For example, it’s traditional to count out a dozen grapes to usher in the new year (yes, you eat them) and if you’re just coming off a disappointing relationship, you’re welcome to get your hands on a broom so you can sweep away bad romance juju.

Alternately, borrow a Mestizo tradition: wear red underwear on New Year’s Eve. We promise not to check. Whether you adopt Creole, Spanish, Honduran, or English New Year's Eve rituals or you’re simply eager to do what you do every year wearing shorts, you’ll be welcomed with open arms by the friendliest people on the planet, all of whom are happy to share their New Year’s Eve with you.

Where to stay to celebrate in a manner to which you are eager to become accustomed? Cahal Pech Village Resort in San Ignacio. It’s so private, that nobody will know what you’re up to—-unless you leave your hideaway to swim in the resort’s freshwater pools or decide to usher in 2025 from a vantage point overlooking the town of San Ignacio. The sweet garden fragrances surrounding you make the night extra special.

Must you spend this big night pondering New Year’s resolutions? Only if that’s part of your tradition. On the other hand, share the night with other Cahal Pech guests. Your call. No matter what you decide to do, there will be cold Belikin beers, because despite the variety of ethnic celebrations unique to Belize, old-fashioned toasts are mandatory.

Remember: red lingerie isn’t required since what happens at Cahal Pech stays at Cahal Pech, but there is one requirement to launch the new year ahead: making unforgettable memories to last a lifetime on this wondrous night in paradise.

Questions? Send us an email or call 239- 494- 3281. We will love to help you plan your New Year's vacation in Belize.
