One of the hottest game sensations to sweep the world in decades, Pokémon Go is now active in Belize. Players who want to catch a Pterodactyl need to make their way to the swimming pool at the Cahal Pech Village Resort in Belize's western Cayo District. Known as a Pokestop in the game, certain locations in the real world give players of Pokémon Go a chance to "catch" various Pokémon creatures. These captured characters can then be "trained" and used to fight battles against other Pokémon Go players.
Since being launched in July 2016 in the United States, Pokémon Go has become one of the hottest phenomena in what is known as augmented reality gaming. Instead of playing the game at home, owners of Android and Apple devices installed with the game Pokémon Go must head out into the real world in order to capture virtual creatures known as Pokémon. Augmented reality games use live feeds from the player's mobile cameras as a backdrop and add gameplay such as battling, training and capturing Pokémon on the screen. Quickly becoming the most popular app downloaded in the United States, the makers of Pokémon Go, Niantic had to delay rollout to the rest of the world as unexpected demand cause a strain on their servers. Pokémon Go is now available in Europe, Canada, and many other locations, including Belize.
Cahal Pech Village Resort is located on top of the ancient Maya ruins of Cahal Pech. Located near the modern town of San Ignacio in Cayo District, Belize, Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins was built around 1200 B.C. as a palatial hilltop estate for elites. 
Although there are approximately 34 surviving buildings at Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins, including a large temple more than 25 meters (82 feet) in height, the only Pokestop or place to catch a Pokémon creature is at the swimming pool at the modern Cahal Pech Village Resort. Both local Belizean youth and international visitors have already begun to make their way to the resort in order to capture this valuable Pokémon.
