August in Belize

Falling during the “low” season, August is one of the best months to visit Belize. Resorts, tour operators, and other attractions offer reductions up to 40% off of “high” season prices and increased competition from all of America’s biggest airlines mean that enjoying a great vacation in August is very affordable.

The weather in Belize in August is not too different from most places in the United States. Abundant sunshine and delicious trade breezes coming in off the Caribbean make for perfect weather to enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, and other activities on the Belize Barrier Reef.

Other popular activities including exploring the lush natural interior of Belize, a diverse landscape of misty mountains, stupendous waterfalls (the tallest in Central America), rolling hills, pristine rivers, and lush rainforests and jungles teeming with wildlife. Other great choices in August include both cave tubing (floating down underground rivers on an inner tube) and exploring enormous underground labyrinths such as ATM Cave and Barton Creek Cave.

Due to its position close to the equator, Belize only has two seasons, the “dry” season and the “green” season, with little change in water or air temperature between the two. August in Belize falls during the green season, a time of early morning showers and occasional downpours during the hottest part of the afternoon.

August is when one of the biggest festivals of the year is held, the International Costa Maya Festival. Originally a modest celebration of Maya heritage, today the Costa Maya Festival is an exuberant three-day party held in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye that features live music, parades, dancing, games, and a beauty pageant.
