Lamanai
The ancient ruins of Lamanai are not completely uncovered
yet. However, as you walk around you see many temples that are
uncovered and many hills that upon closer observation are clearly
temples yet to be excavated. Wildlife is abundant around Lamanai.
You see and hear howler monkeys and jaguars have been known
to be nearby. This is reflected in the stories of the locals as well as
the architecture.
The temples you do see they are amazing. They rise from the
jungle floor to a spectacular view above the jungle canopy. The
temples have many carvings into them of the jaguars and crocodiles
that inhabit the New River Lagoon. In fact on one of the temples,
"El Castillo", you can climb to the top at your own risk. There is a
rope and very narrow, tall, steep steps leading to the top. After about
a 100-foot climb you encounter a breathtaking view.
Baboon Sanctuary
The Baboon Sanctuary, near Bermudian Landing is located on a
20 mile stretch of the Belize river, 27 miles from Belize City. This
community sanctuary protects the Black Howler Monkeys which are
called "baboons" locally. The sanctuary was created when the
landowners came together in the region and began following a plan
for using their land, the agreement was to leave bits of the forest
standing for the monkeys to flourish. This sanctuary offers an
amazing opportunity to view these unique monkeys in their natural
habitat. Know for their 'howl' they can be heard for miles around.

This adventure starts off with a drive down the Hummingbird
highway, the most scenic highway in Belize, en route to Caves
Branch. The tour starts with a vigorous hike into the jungle to the
edge of the sink whole. The fully trained cave guides at Caves
Branch rig a system of rappelling ropes for the decent into the
basin below. The fully trained caving guides then rig a system of
rappelling ropes for your decent to the basin below. The first 10
feet provides the adrenaline, the next 200 feet provides an
unforgettable experience and sights to behold, the last 100 feet
takes you down through the rainforest canopy. The sink hole is
not actually black, but you can't see the bottom from where you
start. Then a return hike out of the foothills. This expedition is not
for the faint of heart and all participants must be relatively fit.

Tikal speaks for itself. Tikal is the only place in the world which
has been declared both a Natural and a Cultural Heritage site. Our

onto Tikal. The site is set in within a 225 square kilometers protected
area and boasts 5 temples, 3 of which you may climb to the top of. Ziplining tours as well as overnight trips can also be arranged in the
Tikal National Park. If you choose, the adventure continues
with a visit to Flores, a slow-paced village with Caribbean sensibility,
pastel-colored buildings and friendly people. Flores is situated on an
island in Lake Petén Itzá, 45 minutes by road from Tikal National Park.
